About Sharing
Information wants to be free
At least half the fun of discovering something is sharing it with others. The spirit of sharing is what makes collaborative projects like Wikipedia such useful resources.
That's why FreqLoader has sharing functions built-in throughout. With these, you can send station or log entries you create to friends, groups or anyone nearby, whether they have an iPhone or not.
You can also benefit from other people's knowledge by importing data they have shared with the site, groups or directly with you.
Sharing in the context of this page means providing station or log entries you have to others. For information about retrieving and importing content, see Pull From FreqLoader and Pull From Nearby.
To share specific entries or the contents of entire categories, tap the share option at the top of the view in question (either the entry listing or the entry details view) and choose who to share with from there. You can choose to export to freqloader.com, or share with groups, friends or someone nearby.
Now you can share with anyone nearby through their web browser.
In addition to allowing you to share stations and log entries with any nearby iPhone/iPod Touch owner, FreqLoader can now allow anyone to view the items you are currently sharing on your phone, in their browser.
Doing so is identical to Sharing with Nearby to you and you will need to have network connectivity activated.
- Navigate to the entry or category you wish to share.
- Tap the Share button.
- Select Share with Nearby.
- Tap Make available to Nearby when you are ready.
The person you are sharing with must have access to a browser and be on the same LAN (network) as you. When you elect to Make available to Nearby, some text appears below the button, similar to:
- Also available through browsers at:
http://YourPhone:2600/share/
http://A.B.C.D:2600/share/
The easy and short name of the first address (YourPhone in this example) may or may not work depending on the network and computer configurations. The numeric address, though less enjoyable to type, should always function correctly.
Note that the port number (the colon and number ":2600") is required in order to view the content in the browser.
Not yet but FreqLoader is already set up to allow for this functionality if the demand exists.
If this is something you would be interested in, be sure to let us know.
There are multiple reasons to export entries to FreqLoader.com.
The first reason is to share them with the world at large. Your database entries, uploaded by doing data backups through Setup::Backup/Restore Your Data are not disclosed to anyone else (unless you specify otherwise in your account options). Exported entries, however, may be found by other people using, for instance through the Station search in the Connector.
Another is to manage your data using a larger, more comfortable, keyboard. In effect, you can log into the site and manage your entries or export them to an ADIF file for use in other programs. To do so, they must first be exported to the site.
To do so, access the Share::Export to FreqLoader.com menu in the relevant category listing or entry details view.
You don't always need to go through the site to share with your friends and acquaintances.
If you meet someone in person you would like to share FreqLoader data with, you can do so using the Share::Share With Nearby entry in the relevant category listing or entry details view.
If they don't have FreqLoader, they can still see your shared content through a browser.
On the other hand, if they do also have FreqLoader installed on their iPhone or iPod Touch, you can wirelessly transmit any entries or an entire category to them directly using share with nearby.
To do so, all you need to do is tap Share at the top of the view, select Share With Nearby from the list of options, and then tap Make available to Nearby.
The button will change to
Ready, awaiting connections
and all you need to do is wait until you see the connection count appear.
The person you are sharing with needs only access Setup::Pull From Nearby to retrieve the data and import it into their application.
When you are done, tap the button again to stop sharing the entries.
When you have subscribed to one or more groups (that allow subscriber contributions), you can send your own content by using Share::Share With Groups (available in the entry list and entry details views).
When you access the share with groups view, the application will fetch the list of groups you can post content to. Tap all the groups you wish to send the entry to, then tap Send Now. The application will inform you when the content has been successfully sent.
See here to learn how to import content from groups.
When you have added friends, you can send them individual station or log entries, or entire categories, using Share::Share With Friends (available in the entry list and entry details views).
When you access the share with friends view, the application will fetch your list of registered friends. Tap all the people you wish to send the entry to, then tap Send Now. The application will inform you when the content has been successfully sent.
See here to learn how to import content you receive from friends.
Everywhere you see something related to sharing in FreqLoader, it refers to sending your data to someone else. You are, in a sense, pushing the entries to friends, groups, etc.
Conversely, to retrieve content shared by others and import it into your application you'll want to Pull From FreqLoader or Pull From Nearby.
